Our Story · Barn Rocker How We Pitched the NY Islanders With No Recipe and Created Long Island's Most Famous Hockey Beer

In 2014, we walked into the New York Islanders' offices with an idea, a handshake, and absolutely no recipe. What came out the other side was Barn Rocker — a beer that poured at Nassau Coliseum during the most emotional final season in Islanders history, and became the official beer of one of hockey's most loyal fan bases.

This is how it happened.

The Last Season at the Barn

The 2014–15 season was the Islanders' goodbye to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum — the building their fans had called home for over 40 years. The team's motto that year was simple and defiant: "Rock the Barn." For Long Island, it wasn't just a hockey slogan. It was a farewell to an era.

We were two years into Oyster Bay Brewing Company at that point — a small craft brewery on the Gold Coast, deeply rooted in the community, and lifelong Islanders fans. We saw an opportunity to be part of something bigger than a beer launch.

The Pitch

We reached out to the Islanders' marketing team and proposed a collaboration beer to honor the final season. We had no recipe developed yet — just the concept, the passion, and a belief that Long Island deserved a beer worthy of the moment.

"We had no recipe or anything," we told them, "but we pitched them the idea and they were interested in learning more."

They said yes.

Building the Beer

We wanted something that anyone could drink — a session ale light enough to enjoy through three periods, but with enough character to feel like a craft beer. We landed on 4.6% ABV and 18 IBU: crisp, clean, session-able. A beer that didn't get in the way of the game but felt right in your hand during a power play.

We named it Barn Rocker — directly from the team's "Rock the Barn" campaign. It poured at Nassau Coliseum that final season, and the response from Islanders fans was immediate.

What It Means Today

Barn Rocker is still our flagship. More than a decade later, it still carries the story of that last year at the Coliseum — a tribute to the fans who rocked those stands for 40 years, and to the Long Island community that built this brewery.

If you haven't been to the taproom lately, come by. Barn Rocker is on draft, we show every Islanders game, and the first pint is on us — use code COMEBACK through April 30, 2026.
